Idle Miner Tycoon is a mobile idle game released in July 2016 on Android and iOS. The goal of Idle Miner Tycoon is to grow your mining company by expanding to new mines, managing your workers and staff, as well as setting up flawless production pipelines to maximize your cash flow.
The game keeps on running even while you are not playing or your phone is turned off – every time you log in you’ll find the pile of cash your workers have earned for you while you were away. You can invest that money to earn more in the future or research new technologies to get closer to your goal: To become the biggest tycoon of all time!
Idle Miner Tycoon was born out of the failure that was Front Yard Wars, an overly ambitious online mobile game with way too many features for our small development team. After a few months of developing Front Yard Wars (2015 until early 2016) we took the tough decision to scrap everything we had and make a completely new less complex game with a much smaller scope. We looked at games we played, analyzed keywords and within just 8 weeks our game Idle Miner Tycoon was available on Google Play and iTunes, on July 1st 2016.
Compared to today it was barebones, we also didn’t have micro transactions or ads in game yet – basically we didn’t even make money the first few weeks. But since the release we’ve followed our goal to release one update per week focused mostly on player feedback.
And here we are, with over four million organic downloads, over one million monthly active users and not a single cent spent on marketing or user acquisition. Today with have translated the game to over 20 languages and even moved to a modern office building in the center of Karlsruhe, so we don’t have to work in Daniel and Janosch’s flat. The core of the five founders (Janosch, Daniel, Oliver, Tim, Sebastian) is now being supported by more than 20 people – among these are three community managers who answer every single email, review and question from our players. We are trying to be the most player centric game studio in the world and are well on our course.
